Writers’ Island is a group focused on setting up writing retreats and holidays, both in the UK and abroad (and not necessarily on islands). We want to help writers of any discipline and experience level improve, bond with other writers, and gain confidence in their own ability. We work with a wonderful group of people, and any participants would be taught by university-level tutors and published authors in three-hour lectures per day. The rest of the day is free for personal use, whether that’s for optional afternoon workshops, exploring the nearby places of interest, or just relaxing.
We do have a website, although the dates provided are old and subject to change. The information about who we are and what we do, however, is all accurate.
We also have a blog, which is open to submissions from the public. We might not be able to publish everything, but we will read everything. If you or anyone you know would like to submit, just write a blog post somewhere between 500 and 1000 words, with any theme and style. We accept anything in the word count range; articles, editorials, short stories, poems etc. There is no deadline, as these are rolling submissions. If you’re interested, send your piece to c.fletcher@writers-island.com.
As for the proboards site itself, we want to use this as a way to keep in contact with our participants, even when we're not on an event or retreat. Members can post their work here for feedback, or can get writing advice from staff or other members. Even if you just want a question about us answered, we'll do our best to help out. Basically, this site is your playground. Have fun in it, but please keep the hair-pulling and number of footballs kicked onto the roof to a minimum.
